Default The Battle Fields of Golan today

Next to the battle site in the Valley of Tears. An example of how Israel makes use of these areas which it has reconquered. Under Syrian occupation, it was essentially a closed military zone, used to threaten Israel and fire on the villages down below. Now vineyards such as these ship out quality wine all over the world, and provide a bounty of fruit for domestic use and hard currency-creating export. We're good in the fight, but we're even better at peace, hands down.

Emeq Ha-Bakha -- taught in major military academies around the world. Illustrates what happens when flexibility, initiative, adaptation, mobility and motivation are thrown into battle against superior equipment and numbers which are, however, locked into a tight chain of command and rigid doctrine. The Syrians were not in least poor soldiers, and they had many tenacious, serious, and brave commanders. But they had no habit or custom as an army of training men to think objectives and necessity, doctrine be damned. Or the classic Israel rule--always consult your superiors if you can, if you have the time and you can find them. But never fail to act just because you are without orders or clarification or permission.

That said, the normal way of the IDF does use doctrines, and use a tight chain of command. The Golan in October of 1973 was anything but normal.
