Default Israeli Wheeled Armoured Cars

The Ram is oldish.
The Wolf/Rafael/Golan is quite actual. A number have been delivered to US Marines for use in Afghanistan. Good V floor against road mines.
The Typhoon is a longer body version.
The Extream Hatehof is latest. Note the bullet deflecting body. Good V floor too.
There are others.
IDF has bought around 100 Wolves for Recon/Light-Fast Armour

Default Circular Error Probable, aka CEP

Precision in hitting the target or target area has always been a problem in artillery. Practically speaking "the longer the range the slower the speed of the grenade the lesser the accuracy". Howitzers have a much lower muzzle velocity than cannon since they have a shorter barrel thus lesser accuracy too; the conventional howitzers 105 and 155 deliver a punch that might hit the jaw or the belly so to speak, or miss!
In order to improve the accuracy of the extended ranges for modern howitzers/cannon a new guided grenade has been engineered. It flies to 40, 50 kilometers with a 20 meter CEP.
Open www.globalsecurity.org and ask for XM982 Excalibur Precision Guided Extended Range Artillery Projectile with a comprehensive technical description. Wikipedia has a good photo. It looks like a missile combined with a grenade. It is assisted by a rocket system in order to increase the range!
Now ......if the Doher can fire such a grenade...I presume it should otherwise it would not be uptodate enough. IMI might also manufacture these!
Guiding a projectile to its target has always been an ideal for ammo and artillery makers. If I remember right Israel has a Trajectory Correction System that signals a missile corrections while it is on its way.

Default Armour, a short introduction

Armour, a short introduction

The materials:
Rolled steel distributes energy away from one point to a larger surface.
Aluminum, light for low weight on APCs.
Titanium, light, strong, expensive. Pilot protection on the Warthog Tankbuster aircraft.
Depleted uranium, high density, sandwiched between steel plates, M1A and Abrams.
Plastic, granite+limestone+bitumen, against armour-piercing bullets.
Glass, laminated with polycarbonate, bullet resistant.
Ceramic, as clay, shatters and destroys the geometry of the hot metal jet, diminishes penetration.
Composite, two or more layers, as steel+ceramics+ eventually heavy metals.

The construction technology:
Design, shape, place. All the components of the Merkava support one another in protecting the hull.
Thicker front, face the enemy even while withdrawing.
Appliqué, or added on extra plates in improving older vehicles. Weight increase!
Kits, factory-made for a certaing vehicle. Ex.: Humvee.
Improvised, while in conflict, tank tracks on hull, sandbags, logs, blacksmith steel, scrap.
Spaced, plate+empty interval+plate. ”skirts” on tracks.
Sloped, deflecting the incoming round. On front or on turret as in the Merkava.
Reactive, explosive charge between the plates pushes away the energy of the incoming round.
Cage forces incoming charge to explode earlier, away from the main body.

Abrams, steel+ceramic+uranium
German Bundesarkiv PKW withy spaced skirts and timber
Caterpillar Bulldozer with cage.
M60 Blazer Reactive + plates
Humvee, with bolt-on extra armour.
Merkava, armour specs unknown, eventually polymorph. Deflecting turret and skirts.
Russian T34, cast steel + appliqué front
Humvee Prefab Armour Kit
Stryker, sloped lines
Upgraded APC by Israeli Saymar
Plasan, israeli comppsite armoured car
Guardium, multi-deflecting design Israeli mini armoured Car.
Cage, on Ridgeback, front and sides, in Iraq
Coyote, exploded image showing protection details.

I don´t know yet! If I can hit enemy headquarters or important ammo stocks at a distance of 40 kilometers, its price would be irrelevant.
Otherwise I would use standard shells with the same howitzer, like the Doher, or with self propelled 155 howitzers, against advancing armoured columns or massed troops where the 20 meter precision is less important.

Further on the same guided shell has been used - it seems - to hit targets with excellent precision within urban areas where the enemy keeps close or "hugs" to protected areas such as schools, hospitals and groups of non-combattant civilians.
