Idea for a game based on the book "Exodus"
I was having I discussion about the book Exodus with my father the other day. It's an excellent book from what he told me (he's reading it, i'm not, i've only seen the movie). So I figured, why not make a game out of it?
The book starts off if I remember correctly in the warsaw ghetto with Dov Landau (the kid who later joins the Irgun in the movie) escaping, and then switches off to Barak Ben Cannan (Ari's father) in Russia during the Tzars as a kid. His synagogue is torched by the Russians, with the Rabbi getting killed protecting the Torah. In response to this, Barak targets the leader of the group who torched the synagogue, knocks at his door, and when the guy answers he plunges a knife in his chest and kills the guy. Instantly, a manhunt for Barak is started, and Barack escapes to Mandate Palestine. Then the story moves to Cyprus (where the movie starts off).
After the beginning events in Poland, Russia, and Cyprus; introducing you to the main characters, you are given a choice. Do you join the Haganah, Irgun, or Lehi? All three factions have different mission sets, though later in the game, all three factions unite under the IDF for the 1948 War of Independence.
The game would be a free world type game, similar to Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto. You go around doing jobs for your faction; assassinate high ranking British, Arab, and UN personel; protect your Kibbutz from Arab marauders, and more.
Since the area of Israel is so small, it could be fully programmed into the game as one giant environment that you can run free in.
The main idea behind the game is to pass on the story of the struggle for a Jewish state to young people, those who are easily influenced. Though yes it should be fun, the educational aspect is just as important. In a time where Israel constantly receives bad PR, this would be fantastic.
It would be very controversial though, with it surly being banned in several countries, mostly Arab of course. I wouldn't doubt it would be banned in several European countries as well, especially the UK.
What are your thoughts on this?
